Chesterfield Basketball Club was set up by Club owner Jordan Turner who is passionate about 3 things, his family, his work and Basketball. As a former athlete himself in addition to being a former Sports Coach who holds a diploma in sports science and a degree in Sports therapy, Jordan is no stranger to the world of sports and bringing out the best in people. Jordan is a big Sheffield Sharks fan, holding a season ticket and attending all their home games. His love for the game wanted to see him build on something he could personally contribute to.
A gap was found in the Chesterfield area for a basketball team dedicated specifically to the Chesterfield region and this is where Jordan stepped in. Having spoken with many friends and groups of social basketballers, some key difficulties included no options to play competitively in the area as other clubs were well established and already have their squads set. Children had no consistent nearby opportunities meaning parents would often have to travel out of town for them to play on a weekend.
There were also few opportunities for women and girls to play the sport in the area as well, again, needing to travel out of town to experience this. Finally, venue security was another factor as those meeting socially could only book one week in advance due to upfront costs being needed to secure a venue each week which sometimes meant the venue was already booked or unavailable for a session which gave no consistency each week for those to meet up and play on a regular basis. As a result Jordan looked for an opportunity to get a club established in the Chesterfield area and formed Chesterfield Basketball Club in 2025. The club is delighted to share that it was awarded a Sport England lottery grant to kick start the club and get things moving.
The club is dedicated to fostering a love for basketball in the local community. We believe in the power of sports to bring people together and create lasting friendships and create a real team spirit, the "No I in team" saying is strongly believed in at Chesterfield Basketball Club and we want to really focus and drive a strong team of basketball players.
We want you to be part of building the success of Chesterfield Basketball club, whether that be turning up and playing socially, wanting to train with a view to join the team in competitive games or whether you want to help out with the delivery of sessions and even become a coach yourself. We have set up a provisional simple but achievable 2 year plan (roadmap) which can be viewed below and it would be great to hear your thoughts on our plans and how you may be able to help the club achieve this.
